Alberta 2023

Although I have lived outside of the United States, there is still a lot of traveling I haven't done. In 2023 I decided it was well past time I finally visited another country by myself, and I decided on Canada. Some have said it's "only" Canada and "doesn't really count," but I disagree. Our northern neighbor has its own unique identity and its own beauty.​

When I decided Canada I also decided it should be a hiking trip. After landing in Calgary I traveled west to visit Banff (though I stayed in Canmore). The Canadian Rockies were a sight to behold and provided me an excellent opportunity to begin improving my landscape photography skills.

Hiking approximately 30 miles over several trails in the course of four or five days - not continuous mind you - my body was put through its paces. Wildfires were a huge problem in Canada in 2023, including in Alberta. Fortunately the blazes behaved, but there was still a noticeable haze in the air from smoke many miles away.
